Linux Fans Rejoice: RHEL 7 Is Here!

Is anyone else out there excited about Red Hat’s recent launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7)? Sure, we all knew it was coming — and it’s been a long time coming! — but now that it’s official, IT shops and departments around the world can make solid plans for upgrading and making the most of this key technology platform. With exciting new features, such as GNOME 3 and grub 2 boot loader, improved subsystem management with OpenLMI and Docker container support, IT professionals around the world should be considering and evaluating RHEL 7.

Of course, like most open source technology, the expertise to deploy, maintain and tune RHEL 7 will be key to any successful implementation. Thank goodness Red Hat training is known for its serious hands-on component, helping you develop real-life skills that translate to being a more effective system administrator. So, how is the release of RHEL 7 going to impact your training needs? Here’s the short story.

First of all, while there are substantial changes in RHEL 7, in most cases, the training and certification paths stay the same: two classes (nine days of training) for your RHCSA and one additional course for your RHCE. The core RHEL 7 classes will be released over the next month or so, with some key changes:

Red Hat Command Line System Administration (RH190) is being retired, and now many of those skills are part of Red Hat System Administration I (RH124).
The RHCE Rapid Track Course (RH299) is becoming truly focused on hands-on skills and labs, with little to no lecture. It’s designed for established Red Hat professionals who need to bump up their skills to RHEL 7.
Red Hat System Administration II (RH134) for RHEL 6 will be available for a short time for mid-stream RHCSA candidates. If you’ve taken Red Hat System Administration I (RH124) on RHEL 6 already, continue on RHEL 6 with RH134. These courses will be delivered live in virtual classrooms as well as through self-paced options.
