For many IT professionals, one of the first certifications they obtain is the A+. Individuals just getting into the IT field or wanting to increase their knowledge should know that two new A+ exams are available. These are the 220–801 and 220–802. These exams will replace 220–701 and 220–702. While the previous exams will continue to be available until August of 2013, now would be a good time to start considering the new exams.
One reason to consider the new exams is that they test candidates on the most current technology and skills. 220–801 addresses core knowledge areas, including:
- Hardware — 40%
- Networking — 27%
- Laptops — 11%
- Operational Procedures — 11%
220–802 will require candidates to understand the following topics:
- Operating systems — 33%
- Security — 22%
- Mobile devices — 9%
- Troubleshooting — 36%
The items covered on the exam, including mobile devices, smart phones, and tablets, are the same skills you’ll need to understand when working in the IT field. The A+ certification is a good place to start if you’ve been thinking about making the move to IT.
