Minors are the most common targets of identity theft. Mostly because they have no credit file and are not actively using credit. Stealing their identity often provides the criminal years of use before the damage is detected. The only defense against identity theft is to freeze your credit files with all three credit bureaus. A number of states now allow for minor credit freeze. For details see Clark Howard credit freeze. If your state does not yet support minor credit freeze, write your congress persons.
