Since Global Knowledge became an IBM Global Training Provider and launched their IBM training practice last year, I’ve been to a total of 10 IBM shows (both hardware and software). It sounds like a huge number in such a short time, but it gets even crazier when you add in the fact that Enterprise 2014 will be the first show I’m attending as a full on alumna. Last year’s show was high energy and for the Global Knowledge team it was like returning to our hometown. We had a big presence and we even ran into some former VMware and Red Hat students, which is always awesome.
Since I’m a veteran and all, I’m trying to get better at planning ahead for the show. Check out the sessions I’ve highlighted as my must-sees:

Learn how Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated has been able to leverage IBM’s DB2 database versions on Power to improve its SAP ECC 6.0 system over time. These changes have led to both real performance and savings improvements. During the session, we review CCBCC’s past and present ECC 6.0 landscape to show how we have evolved the infrastructure and database software over time. Most of the session focuses on how we were able to reduce the database size, improve performance and save resources by upgrading to DB2 10.1/Power. The session concludes with a review of some early testing results with IBM’s newest version DB2 10.5 with BLU.
I’m also attending Insight 2014 the last week of October so I’m thinking it would be good to make October a month about Information Management!

See a demonstration of the capabilities of IBM’s General Parallel File System (GPFS). We create a basic GPFS cluster and file system, utilize GPFS replication for availability, dynamically modify an existing file system, and utilize the Information Lifecycle Management capabilities in GPFS for file placement and migration.
Heard a lot of intriguing things about Elastic Storage when I was at Edge 2014 back in May… Looking forward to seeing the GPFS tech it’s based on in action!

I definitely got sucked in by this title because who doesn’t love some Angry Birds, but on further inspection this looks like some great insight on next-level uses for the mainframe.
Last but not least, I love to see IBM and our other partners get together in a chocolate peanut butter moment. I’m excited to get more info on these two particularly with the launch of RHEL 7.
