The results are in, and 2014 has shown improvement across the board in regards to base salaries, raises, and bonuses for respondents to Global Knowledge’s yearly IT Skills & Salary Survey. The survey, one of the industry’s largest of its kind, was conducted in the fall of 2013. Results were published in the Global Knowledge 2014 IT Skills & Salary Report and included input from more than 12,000 North American respondents in both IT and business fields.
Base Salary
The average base salary reported by respondents is at its highest mark since 2009. With an average response of $88,952, this base salary figure is up $10,303 from last year and is $4,400 more than the highest average in the past seven years.
Raise
The percentage of those respondents who received a raise in this year’s survey has also increased compared to the previous three years. This figure has steadily increased since 2011 and is now at a high of 70 percent.
Respondents who had also achieved a certification in their field in the previous year said that was a factor in their likelihood of receiving a raise.
- Less than a year since last certification: 29 percent of respondents who earned a certification in the last year cited they had received a raise.
- More than one year since last certification: 15 percent of respondents who earned a certification in previous years — but not in the last year — reported receiving a raise.
- Not earned a certification: 26 percent of respondents who have never earned a certification said they received a raise.
Bonus
The number of respondents who reported receiving a bonus has also increased progressively since 2011. In fact, with more than half responding they had received a bonus, this figure is at its highest point since the study’s inception.
Respondents who had also achieved a certification in their field in the previous year said it was a factor in their likelihood of earning a bonus.
- Less than a year since last certification: 84 percent of respondents who earned a certification in the last year said they had received a bonus.
- More than one year since last certification: 47 percent of respondents who earned a certification in previous years — but not in the last year — reported receiving a bonus.
- Not earned a certification: 75 percent of respondents who have never earned a certification said they received a bonus.
